Our farm was a dairy cow pasture for many, many years.
One side of the farm is on rich sandy loam soil
that is deep and easy on the back when you dig.
The other side of the farm is on hard black adobe soil. A bit more of a challenge.
The two sides are seperated by Corona Creek whick has running water in winter.
It's ephemeral
We are on the urban fringe of Petaluma, a town of about 60,000 people in Sonoma County, California.
One of our immediate neigbors is a middle school for over 900 kids.
We often find their stuff in our vineyard.
Some neigbors have goats or sheep or horses but none are farmers like us.
They don't mind.
Behind us is 2,400 feet of Sonoma Mountain and below us is the Petaluima River.
